Mr and Ms White in pictures – ‘Top Currency’

Villages and small cities seem to have much more trust left than modern urban blocks, where you barely know your own neighbor. But of course, you have to earn that trust first, even by speaking a few words in bahasa, for example.

Kamu beli nya bagaimana? Karena tadi kamu lupa dompet…  –  How did you buy this? Because you forgot your wallet before…

Kepercayaan adalah mata uang yang paling penting  –  Trust is the most important currency [lit: eye of the money]

Kamu sudah jadi orang Indonesia asli  –  Wah, you have already become a real Indonesian

Mr and Ms White in pictures – ‘Smells Good’

Geckos are probably most common “domesticated” animals in Indonesia. They sneak in through windows, doors and cracks in ceilings. So, it isn’t any wonder there are many beliefs connected to them. So many, you can even make up some new by yourself.

Gecko baik baik saja, karena dia makan banyak nyamuk  –  Gecko is just a good (animal), because he eats a lot of mosquitoes

Benar! Dan dia ada 4 ketek  –  True! And he has 4 armpits

Jadi banyak nyamuk pingsan karena bau dia juga  –  Therefore, many mosquitoes also faint because of his smell*

*They do not smell, unless they are dead.
